The History of Bon Accord
The history of Bon Accord stems from Scottish settlers in the 1800's. We have a population of 1461 people, and we are located minutes from Edmonton, St. Albert, and Fort Saskatchewan. The name "Bon Accord" deprives from the meaning "good agreement". Through steady growth the town was able to develop and able to sell products out of Bon Accord district and to others. Over the years we have not strained away from our agricultural roots. We are known as a "Dark Sky Community". This is known as a town, city, municipality, or other legally organized community that has shown dedication to preserving the area of their night sky through enforcement of quality outdoor lighting ordinance, dark sky education and citizen support of dark skies. We as a town are responsible for promoting lighting and dark sky stewardship. Not only that but we try to set an example for the surrounding communities. Doing this and having the surrounding communities take part in this really is something special that the town of Bon Accord takes deep pride in. Overall, the history of Bon Accord has deep roots. It helped build a solid foundation for our community today. History will always be a part of our town, and we will always continue to show that it will always be within the roots of Bon Accord. We will always strive to be better for the future.
Bon Accord Providing Community & Family Support Services
In our community we strive to having easy and dedicated support for you and your family. This comes with providing clubs and organizations to build strong relationships. This provides families and individuals with support from others. We have many day cares to support families who have tough time management and need childcare. We also have a strong school system, Bon Accord Community School who supports students through kindergarten to grade 4, and Lilian Schick School grades 5 to 9. We provide a Bon Accord out of school care program for children between 5 and 12 years of age. We believe providing many support systems helps bring everyone together as a community. At the end of the day, everyone shines bright like stars. Another huge support is the Public Works. This is a department in Bon Accord which helps the maintenance for the road repairs, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, street sign repair, parks and facility maintenance, street sweeping, utility meter readings, and much more. The Public Works helps the community immensely. Whether it is snow cleaning in the winter to fixing sidewalks in the summer, to repairing to schools gutters they are always there to help. This stems throughout our community and town, from older buildings that are well kept thrive with wonderful shops and stores. This helps keep the agriculture feel throughout our town. On, your travels, you will see many farms and other agricultural structures. There are also lots of gas and food stops near and around our town if you need essentials as you are on your journey.
